In this lesson we introduce students to the book and ask them to differentiate the characteristics of each character, understand the environment of the island and make connections to their everyday life. Students will explore the concepts of what good or positive means.

In this lesson Misty realizes that Spark’s Orange is contagious and she loves it. Students are presented with situations and asked, “What would Spark do?” and learn how to think and act like Spark. They even create a set of adjectives that describe Spark behavior - that becomes a standard for their own behavior.
